If you need new windows, whether you are building a home or putting on an addition, there are more options than you might realize. While traditional fixed windows can work in many cases, there is quite a bit of variety in the window world. Check out five of the top options below and determine which windows will be right for your space.

Casement Windows

Casement windows can work well in many areas of the home. They are nice when placed above the sink in the kitchen or the basement, for example. These are hinged windows, and you can open them outward using a crank handle. This allows you to have some fresh air in the house.

Bay Windows

Bay windows make a statement. From an aesthetic perspective, they look great from the inside and the outside of the home. They provide plenty of natural light, and they can provide you with a great place to sit, relax, and see what’s happening outside. The light from the windows also makes it a great place to read a book.

Sliding Windows

One of the most popular options will be sliding windows. These types of windows will open horizontally, and they can work in just about any room of the house from the bedrooms to the living room and the basement. They tend to work well for smaller spaces and make it easy to bring in ventilation to the room.

Double-Hung Windows

A double-hung window will have two sashes, and upper and lower. The sashes will slide vertically, allowing you to open up the window. These are popular windows because they tend to be easy to keep clean and they can last for a long time.

Awning Windows

Awning windows will typically have a hinge at the top and will swing out from the bottom. They have a crank handle similar to casement windows. Again, this is a great way to get some fresh air into the house. They have a nice look and can add some visual interest to the house.
