Cost efficiency is a major concern for many home owners in today’s fickle economy. Before tackling any new home improvement project, you want to be sure that whatever changes you’re looking to make will increase the value of your home. One good way to increase your home’s value as well of your chances of recouping your design investment is by adding an outdoor living space. Adding a deck to your home is a great investment; financially and aesthetically.

A deck is a great outdoor living space option. Add a barbeque grill, some outdoor furniture, a few lights and something to keep the mosquitos away and you’re sure to have a summer to remember! Like with any living space, you need to carefully consider the size and location of the deck. Where will you put the deck and how will it be accessible from the house. Choosing the access to the deck will be important. Consider the traffic in your home and which area would be best suited for a high traffic volume when you entertain.

In choosing the location for your deck, you should also consider the trees and shade in your backyard. You want to be as comfortable as possible while enjoying your deck so keeping it as shaded as possible is probably a good idea! Another option would be to extend your roof over the deck; this will provide good shade and add a nice aesthetic touch. What kind of privacy would you like your deck to have? How do you plan on protecting your deck from the elements? A pergola is another good option for coverage. Not only will it provide some shade but it will give you a nice roof to hang decorative fixtures from!

You also need to decide the size of your deck. You should consider the size of your backyard and how much of the yard you want the deck to take up. Consider where you want the steps that will lead into the yard area. Depending on the size of your yard and how much space you want your deck to provide, you might want to consider a multi-level deck. We, at Rusco, will ensure that everything will be built in alignment with local building codes so you will never have to be concerned with that!

No matter your budget or design plan, we’ll help you create the deck you’ve always wanted for your home!
