When you decorate for the holidays, are you taking full advantage of your outdoor spaces? While many homeowners opt for a tree or two inside and a few twinkle lights around the front side of the house, the backyard area often goes neglected when it comes to festivity. Your backyard area, especially a well-maintained deck, can be a wonderful place to spread Christmas cheer – and can even become another entertaining space for your busy holiday season.

Curious how you can make your deck and backyard area part of your home’s seasonal décor? Here are a few of our favorite ideas.

Classic Lights
Here at Rusco, we love working with our customers to design home improvement projects that will add to the value of their house. A custom deck design can do just that, and you won’t want to leave it empty during the cold winter months. For the holidays, consider adding a few potted evergreen trees to the corners of the space and use a mix of solid and twinkling white lights.

Don’t Forget the Candles
For a more cozy feel for your outdoor deck space, don’t underestimate the power of traditional and flameless candles. Put clusters of candles on tables throughout your deck space and consider making luminaries to highlight the perimeter of your space. Guests will flock to your deck to enjoy stargazing with the flicker of nearby candlelight.

Heat it Up
Guests won’t utilize your deck space during holiday entertaining if it is too cold. While we cannot control the weather, homeowners can control heating outside. Consider using a firepit and keep a basket of warm and fuzzy throw blankets right by the door for guests to pick up on their way out. You can also invest in stand up outdoor heaters to place throughout the space; your guests will love warming up next to these propane wonders. Finally, don’t forget the warm beverages! Serve mulled wine or cider, as well as hot cocoa (don’t forget the marshmallows) and your guests will enjoy their outdoor experience even more.

Are you wishing you had a custom designed deck for entertaining, or to simply enjoy yourself? Give us a call to set up an appointment in our showroom; you will quickly see why customers have been using Rusco for more than 80 years.
