A sunroom is a wonderful addition to the house. You will love having a new space where you can enjoy the sunshine, sit and relax, and look out your windows into the yard. However, if you are going to be adding a sunroom, you need to have a plan in place before you get started. Below are some of the most important things you will have to consider.

Your Budget

Naturally, this is the most important consideration. Your budget is going to determine everything about your sunroom including the size, the furnishings, etc. Determine how much you can spend and then you will have a better idea of where to allocate the money as you are building the sunroom. You may be able to DIY some of the work, but it’s generally best to work with a specialist for the bulk of the addition.

Your Space

Next, you have to consider how much space you have available for your sunroom. You might have some big plans, but you have to think about the amount of square footage that is available. You also have to think about the location of the sunroom. Typically, it will be attached to the house, but you could opt for a solarium that’s separate from the home and in a different location in your backyard. Just keep in mind electricity and heating needs.

How You Will Use the Sunroom

What do you plan to do with the sunroom? This will inform many of your decisions for building it. Are you going to use it as a place to entertain friends and relax? Will it be a room where you grow plants, or where you enjoy one of your hobbies?

The Windows

The windows are one of the most important parts of your sunroom. After all, they are what will allow in the light. What types of windows do you want? Do you want to have a big bay window? Do you want to have windows that open, so you can allow in some fresh air? What about a skylight? Consider the size of the windows you want, as well as their placement.

The Décor

Finally, you get to think about the décor for the sunroom. For many people, this is the most exciting part. You get to figure out the aesthetics of the room with the furniture, lighting, flooring, etc.
