No matter the make, windows and doors tend to frost up. Your windows have the potential to get icy and cold in freezing conditions. A great way to combat the chill of windows is with a storm door/window. But what happens when your storm door/window begins to frost up? Well, in a case such as this, it might not be the storm door/window that is the problem. Luckily, we here at Rusco have a few preventative tips to help keep the frost off your storm door/window.

Preventing Frost

1. Weather Stripping. Make sure the weather stripping around your windows is in good condition. If it is not, this could be where the moist air from the home is leaking past the window and freezing on the others side.

2. Window Locks. Lock your windows securely. Sash locks, which are commonly found on house windows, are not just to keep out intruders, but also help to seal the window against the weather proofing and prevent unwanted leaks and breezes.

3. Reduce Moisture. The reason why your storm door/window is icing up is most likely because the moisture in the warm house air is getting colder. When this happen, the air can’t hold as much moisture, so it will cling to the door and freeze. Two great ways to reduce moisture are by using an exhaust fan when bathing or cooking, or keeping a dehumidifier in the appropriate room.

Fight the frost with the tips mentioned above and when it come time to choose windows or doors, make sure you consult Rusco. With makers like Pella, Marvin, Albany, and Provia there’s no doubt that we have the highest quality selection. If you’re looking for a long term solution to stay warm this winter, call Rusco!
