Custom windows are a big investment. To be a savvy consumer, you must understand how to make the best decision for your home and for your budget. One way to do this is to brush up on your knowledge of the materials that make up your custom windows.

Here’s everything you need to know about components that make up a quality window. Important materials you need to consider are the widow frames, seals and glass panes. Each material can accent your design plans as well as affect your budget.

Types of Frames

The frame material you choose is incredibly important. You need to be sure it will be durable enough to stand up to the elements and give you the aesthetic look you want as well. The most cost-effective options available are aluminum and vinyl. Both frames types are available in most colors, however, once you choose your color you may be stuck with it. This could put a wrench in your design ideas.

Although both options are durable, they may not stand up to the elements quite as well as the more expensive options, especially the aluminum frames. Wood frames are a tried and true option that offer some flexibility for your design. For example, you can paint or stain the wood and it is quite durable but not as much as the synthetic options.

Fiberglass frames are by far the best available. Fiberglass is one of the strongest materials as well as the most expensive. However, in this case, spending a little more money can offer durability and other benefits in the long run. You won’t need to worry about weather damage, cracks, or warping. Not only does fiberglass require little no maintenance, but it is also available in many colors and is attractive to look at from the inside as well.

Window Seals

Your window seals have an important job to do. It is no wonder that higher quality windows will have significantly better seals and are the only windows that can keep harsh weather out when the temperature drops below zero.

A less expensive window seal will not be as successful at keeping cold air out in the winter months which can lead to increased heating bills. When thinking about your budget it is important to consider that if you are going to be paying more to heat your house it may make more sense to invest in a more efficient window, saving you money in the long run.

Glass Panes

There are several options available when it comes to glass panes. The most affordable choice is a single pane. Although this option costs less it is not the most energy-efficient and can cost you more when you factor in utility bills. The most energy-efficient option available is the double glazed or insulated glass. This glass choice is the best at keeping out brutal chills and will save you money on your utilities as well.

New windows are an important investment for all homeowners. Making sure you choose a custom window that meets your design needs and your budget can be a daunting process. This is when having expert advice can go a long way.
