If you’re one of those people who doesn’t go into their basement too often and would rather work on remodel bathroom ideas, putting  insulation in windows or something else that directly affects your everyday, we at Rusco understand. That’s why we’re here to let you know a few things you can do before calling a general contracting company to come fix your damp basement.

Basement Dampness Home Remedies

  1. Make sure your spoutings are clean. Clean spoutings allow for a fluent water disposal and prevent overflowing.
  1. Make sure the drainage for your spouting is working properly. If it’s not, head over to a local hardware store and pick up an elbow and straight piece of spouting. Connecting these pieces should help to kick the water further out into your yard and away from your home.
  1. Make sure the dirt and/or landscaping around your home is sloped away from your house. This will prevent runoff from seeping into the cement walls of your basement and slowly wearing away at your homes infrastructure.
  1. Try a dehumidifier. A dehumidifier will help collect the moisture seeping into your basement and into the air, and when the dehumidifier is finally full of water, you can use that water to water plants inside and outside of your home.

When you begin to budget remodeling, things can get expensive. That’s why we here at Rusco suggest some of these inexpensive remedies when dealing with a damp basement.
